What are religion and science trying to tell us about Life, the Universe and everything. To answer this, I will have to wander off on a tangent, but will attempt to find my way back to the path before terminal confusion sets in.
The temptation is to answer that Religion and Science are two completely separate entities, following different paths, and attempting to answer different questions. In this respect, the simple answer would be that;
Religion tries to provide us with answers about ‘Why’ things happen. The religious answer to your question would be that some supernatural force brought about the creation of humanity. This force gifted humanity with reasoning, morality and a higher purpose.
Science tries to provide us with insight about ‘How’ things happen: The purely scientific answer to your question is that life is a complex system of chemical reactions. Humanity arose from evolutionary pressure that selected increasingly complex forms. All intellect, reasoning and emotion are a result of interactions within the brain.
“Religion without science is superstition and science without religion is materialism.”
Going back to the original question: What do you understand about life when you listen to science and religion? The simple answer is …”Very Little.” Life is far too complex to be answered by science alone, or by isolated religious teachings.
As Socrates said, “The only thing that I know is that I know nothing.”
So, What do you said?
